Gallagher emerges victorious in individual competition at Patriot Open

The University of Pennsylvania wrestling team had an impressive showing at the 2024 Patriot Open, with sophomore Max Gallagher winning the individual title in the 125-pound weight class. Gallagher, ranked #18, secured his second individual title of the season after previously winning at the Keystone Classic in November. Junior Kelly Dunnigan also had a strong performance, finishing in fourth place at 149 pounds. In addition to Gallagher and Dunnigan, Spencer Barnhart, Paul Ognissanti, and Adam Thomson also competed for the team.
Gallagher dominated his way through the 125-pound bracket, earning victories over tough opponents before ultimately winning the title by medical forfeit in the championship match. The Quakers will now have a few weeks off before heading to the Midlands Championships on December 29.
Overall, it was a successful outing for the Penn wrestling team at the Patriot Open, with Gallagher’s individual title adding to their list of accomplishments this season. The team will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for future competitions.
