Groundhog Rescued from Claw Machine at Pennsylvania Mini Golf Course
Duncansville, PA – An unusual rescue operation unfolded at the Meadows Family Fun Mini Golf recently when employees discovered a live groundhog trapped inside a claw machine. Instead of the expected stuffed animals, workers were met with the sight of the woodland creature moving among the plush prizes.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission received an urgent call to assist in the situation. State Game Warden Salvadore Zaffuto arrived at the scene to investigate the peculiar occurrence. Upon his approach, he noticed movement inside the machine, leading to the discovery of the groundhog peeking out from behind the stuffed toys.
Groundhogs, known for their burrowing habits and tree-climbing abilities, are common in Pennsylvania. They can weigh up to 11 pounds and typically inhabit areas with rocky outcrops. Wildlife officials shared the amusing story on Instagram, accompanied by images of the curious critter nestled among its plush cousins.
After assessing the situation, the game wardens coordinated with the vending machine company to unlock the claw machine and safely retrieve the groundhog. They released the animal back into its natural habitat unharmed, jokingly suggesting that perhaps next time the groundhog should use tokens to play the game instead of trying to "cheat" its way to victory.
This incident not only highlights the quirky interactions between wildlife and human environments but also serves as a reminder of the need for safe practices to ensure the wellbeing of animals.
