Pennsylvania Attorney General Focuses on Safety Over Politics
Greensburg, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday emphasized community safety and effective governance rather than engaging in political confrontations during a recent interview with TribLive at the White Rabbit Cafe.
Amid national political tensions, Sunday, a Republican, stated, "I know that when you file a lawsuit, everything changes and communication stops." Rather than litigating against federal policies, he has opted to advocate for Pennsylvanians directly with Washington leaders.
Recently concluding a three-day tour of Western Pennsylvania, Sunday’s visit included the launch of a $650,000 joint command center in Westmoreland County, which aims to enhance collaboration among various law enforcement levels. This initiative reflects his commitment to cooperative efforts in addressing community safety, particularly in contrast to the ongoing legal battles related to federal policies that have characterized other state responses.
While GOP leaders have taken combative stances against the Trump administration, as seen with Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro’s litigation over federal funding cuts, Sunday remains focused on his core mission. "I ran for AG to follow the law and keep the community safe," he asserted, distancing himself from political dramatics.
Sunday’s early months in office have tackled pressing issues, including a crackdown on the trafficking of fentanyl, with recent efforts yielding significant drug seizures. He also highlighted a landmark $7 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma, with Pennsylvania set to receive approximately $200 million, aimed at bolstering addiction treatment.
Regarding potential legislation on recreational marijuana, Sunday voiced concerns about public safety but pledged to enforce laws as they evolve, stating, "I’m going to be a voice in public safety."
His measured approach underscores a commitment to effective leadership in maintaining safety and managing the ongoing drug crisis within Pennsylvania.
