Local Players Shine in State Baseball Awards
Fourteen talented athletes from the region have been recognized by the Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association, with nine earning spots on the prestigious first team in their respective classifications.
Northern Cambria’s senior trio made headlines as pitcher Caleb Dolney, infielder Shawn Gisler, and outfielder Shane Gisler claimed first-team honors in Class 1A. Dolney finished the season unbeaten at 8-0, boasting a 2.16 ERA and 78 strikeouts over 45.1 innings. Shawn Gisler excelled at the plate, hitting .492 with stellar statistics including a .614 on-base percentage and a .754 slugging percentage, while Shane Gisler followed closely, batting .480 and contributing significant runs and RBIs.
In Class 2A, Cambria Heights’ Garrett Jasper and Westmont Hilltop’s Bryce Goodman also made first-team cuts. Jasper recorded an impressive .464 batting average along with a 1.39 ERA as a pitcher, while Goodman stole the show with a .618 batting average that included five home runs and a staggering 1.218 slugging percentage.
Class 3A witnesses the achievements of Forest Hills teammates Xander Richardson and Chase Williamson, both named to the first team. Richardson impressed with a .481 batting average, while Williamson boasted a remarkable .531 average and will continue his baseball journey at Delgado Community College.
Somerset’s Cole Lucas and Callen Miller rounded out the first-team selections in Class 4A, with Miller hitting .483 and Lucas finishing at .500.
Additionally, several local athletes earned second-team accolades, including Blacklick Valley’s Eli Sheesley, Aiden Boring, and Collin Nedrich in Class 1A, as well as Windber’s Lucas Oleksa in Class 2A and Somerset’s Braeden Flower in Class 4A.
These recognitions highlight the remarkable talent and commitment to excellence within local baseball programs.
