Large Sinkhole Causes Vehicle Crash in Lancaster County
EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A significant sinkhole opened on Harrisburg Pike late Wednesday night, resulting in a multi-vehicle accident that involved at least two cars, including an emergency medical services (EMS) vehicle. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m., leading one car to overturn and land on its roof. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene to address both the crash and the sinkhole, which is located between Hemlock Drive and Route 741/McGovernville Road. As a precaution, all eastbound lanes of Harrisburg Pike have been closed between Hemlock and Good drives, with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) estimating that the roadway will remain shut until at least 9 a.m. on Friday.
Authorities are working diligently to repair the hole and ensure the safety of motorists. Meanwhile, local drivers are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
