Governor Josh Shapiro Unveils Amazon’s $20 Billion Investment in Pennsylvania for AI Infrastructure—The Largest Capital Investment in State History

Amazon’s Major Investment in Pennsylvania to Create 1,250 Jobs

Berwick, PA – In a historic announcement, Governor Josh Shapiro revealed that Amazon plans to invest at least $20 billion to establish multiple high-tech cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) campuses across Pennsylvania. This monumental investment is expected to generate a minimum of 1,250 high-paying jobs, with Salem Township and Falls Township earmarked as the initial sites for development.

Governor Shapiro hailed the investment as a significant milestone for the state, marking it as the largest private sector financial commitment in Pennsylvania’s history. “Pennsylvania is competing again,” he stated, underscoring the potential for stable employment and community revenue growth. This project signifies a renewed focus on economic development, as Shapiro’s administration has secured over $25.2 billion in private investment since he took office, leading to nearly 11,000 new jobs.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), known for being the leading cloud provider, will further develop its infrastructure in Pennsylvania, fortifying the U.S.’s position in the AI sector. This investment aligns with AWS’s broader strategy to enhance its capabilities in generative AI and advanced computing technologies.

David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to workforce development and community initiatives, stating, “We’re investing in Pennsylvania’s future through new jobs and educational programs.”

The investment is also projected to generate significant tax revenues for local communities and enhance infrastructure. “Thanks to Governor Shapiro’s leadership, Pennsylvania is winning projects like this,” added DCED Secretary Rick Siger.

Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $26 billion in Pennsylvania and continues to expand its operational footprint across the state, which now includes numerous fulfillment and delivery stations.
