Pennsylvania American Water Unveils $7.5 Million Water Line Improvement Project in Pittsburgh

Pennsylvania American Water to Replace 357 Lead Service Lines in Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver

Pennsylvania American Water has announced a significant initiative to enhance water quality in Pittsburgh and Mount Oliver Borough by replacing approximately 357 lead service lines. The project is set to commence on June 16, following funding from a $1.6 million low-interest loan and a $3.3 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority.

JoAnn Hepler, Senior Manager of Water Quality and Environmental Compliance, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering safe and reliable water. "While water quality meets all regulatory standards, we are committed to proactively replacing lead service lines to further protect the health, safety, and peace of mind of our customers,” Hepler stated.

Beginning mid-June, contractors will canvass Pittsburgh’s 29th Ward and Mount Oliver to identify any unknown service line materials. These contractors will be easily recognizable by their high-visibility vests and ID badges. If lead or galvanized steel lines are detected, customers will be informed about replacement options at no direct cost.

This initiative aligns with Pennsylvania American Water’s ongoing efforts to eliminate lead service lines from its public water supply system, aiming to improve water quality and ensure the health of the community.

For residents seeking more information, additional details can be accessed through the company’s resources. This proactive replacement program underscores Pennsylvania American Water’s focus on enhancing water safety and contributing positively to community health.
