Pennsylvania Game Commission Takes Charge of Bear Sightings in Bucks County

Young Bear Spotted in Middletown Township, Relocation Planned

Middletown Township, PA — A young bear has been making headlines as it roamed the area, prompting local authorities to consider a safe relocation strategy. The bear was first seen on Thursday and again on Friday at the Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. Police confirmed that ring camera footage has been instrumental in tracking the bear’s movements, although it has since vacated the area.

Authorities believe there is only one bear, but remain open to the possibility of additional sightings. Middletown Township police are actively working with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to ensure the bear’s safety, stating, “We are not trying to kill it… we also don’t want it getting hit by a car or hurting someone.” The police department has announced plans to utilize a drone to assist in locating the animal, while students at local schools were kept indoors briefly as a precaution.

The bear’s presence has sparked concern, but the Game Commission notes that instances of young bears travel alone are not uncommon, especially as they seek new habitats. Officials emphasized that while monitoring the bear, their goal is to minimize human-wildlife encounters. Though there are no traps currently set up in Middletown, a trap has been installed in Pennsburg, Montgomery County, where another bear was spotted.

Residents are urged to report any sightings of the bear by calling 911. As the situation develops, local authorities continue to monitor the situation, prioritizing community safety while respecting wildlife.
