Pennsylvania Thunderstorm Warning Lifted

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Expires in Western Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, PA — June 6, 2025: The National Weather Service’s severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Allegheny, Westmoreland, Armstrong, and Fayette counties has officially expired as of 2:45 PM EDT after the storms weakened below severe levels. Although the immediate threat to life and property has passed, residents are advised to remain cautious as heavy rain continues to accompany lingering thunderstorms.

Earlier in the day, Lawrence County faced a flash flood warning until 2:15 PM due to 1 to 2 inches of rain, causing elevated water levels in local streams and drainage areas. Communities such as Hillsville, Bessemer, and Newcastle Union were particularly affected, with authorities monitoring the situation closely.

For the remainder of the day, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated, especially in the afternoon. Despite brief breaks of sunshine, high humidity is expected to contribute to storm instability, leading to isolated strong storms with potential damaging wind gusts, particularly Sunday morning.

Weather forecasts indicate a cooler day on Saturday, but the risk for scattered showers will persist throughout the weekend. Meteorologists are closely tracking a low-pressure system approaching the region, predicting pockets of heavy rain on Sunday before conditions gradually improve into next week.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed on the latest weather developments and can sign up for free alerts via the WTAE app to receive real-time updates about severe weather in their areas. While this week promises a respite with clearer skies, temperatures are projected to rise back into the low 80s.
