Penn Field Hockey Welcomes Class of 2029 Under New Coach Scott Tupper
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s head field hockey coach, Scott Tupper, proudly announces the recruitment of his inaugural Class of 2029. This fall, seven talented athletes—Jazmin Borensztein, Lavina Cartellieri, Sarah Ding, Lucy Mangat, Samira Rafide, Monet Thurbide, and Sophie Watson—will join the Quakers as freshmen.
"We are thrilled to welcome these seven young women to the Penn field hockey program," said Tupper. "Their diverse talent and energy will undoubtedly make a significant impact on our field and community."
The newcomers bring a wealth of experience and accolades from around the globe, enriching the Quakers’ roster. Borensztein, a defender from Argentina, celebrated as a U16 team captain and boasts a remarkable GPA. Cartellieri, a forward from Connecticut, has represented Austria at various international tournaments and received multiple MVP awards. Meanwhile, Ding, from St. Louis, stands out as a two-time state champion and has been recognized as a top player nationally.
English midfielder Mangat has competed extensively in the England Hockey League and showcases prowess in both field hockey and skiing. Rafide, a Chilean goalkeeper, has trained with her national team and triumphed in numerous championships. Thurbide of British Columbia is celebrated on Canada’s U18 team, while Massachusetts’s Watson brings solid defensive skills and leadership.
All seven student-athletes plan to enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences, reflecting a commitment to balancing rigorous academics with competitive athletics. Tupper looks forward to mentoring them over the next four years, fostering both their athletic growth and academic success.
