University of Pennsylvania Wrestling Welcomes New Class of 2029

PHILADELPHIA – In a significant boost to their wrestling program, the University of Pennsylvania announced the addition of nine talented student-athletes to its Class of 2029. Head Coach Matt Valenti expressed excitement about the new recruits, emphasizing their commitment to elevating the standards of Penn wrestling.

The incoming class features outstanding wrestlers, including:

  • Caden Bellis from Oswego, N.Y., is a 2023 New York state champion and team captain, boasting an impressive 184-20 record.

  • Liam Carlin, representing Glenville, N.Y., has been a standout competitor at both Burnt Hills and Greens Farms Academy, securing multiple championships, including the New York’s Section 2 title.

  • Deven Casey from Elmhurst, Ill., excelled at IC Catholic Prep, where he garnered accolades such as the 2024 Illinois State Champion and multiple All-American honors.

  • Brian Heard of North Abington Township, Pa., is a four-year letter winner renowned for his 155-24 record and leadership as team captain, with accomplishments in various state competitions.

  • Greyson Meak from Huntington, N.Y., is a three-time captain and has earned the title of state champion, along with numerous pins and awards.

  • Davis Motyka of Kingston, Pa., was instrumental in leading Wyoming Seminary to a Prep National Championship and was celebrated as an individual champion in 2023 and 2024.

  • Ias Rodriguez-Jimenez, hailing from Gilbert, Ariz., has made his mark as a two-time Fargo Freestyle All-American.

  • Wyatt Stout, from Waretown, N.J., brings experience from competing at the state level, while Nate Taylor of Mickleton, N.J., has a remarkable high school record and several championships to his name.

Valenti highlighted the collective potential of this new class, stating, "This group understands that we are building something bigger than ourselves." The future looks bright for Penn wrestling as these athletes prepare to join the team’s legacy.
