Spotlight PA Welcomes Amanda Fries as Regional Investigative Reporter for Berks County
Berks County’s commitment to accountability and transparency in journalism is bolstered with the addition of Amanda Fries as the new regional government and institutions reporter for Spotlight PA’s Berks Bureau. Known for her award-winning investigative work at Delaware Online/The News Journal, Fries brings a wealth of experience that includes groundbreaking coverage of critical issues such as lead contamination in school drinking water.
During her four years in Delaware, Fries earned accolades for her reporting on the lead levels in school drinking water, which instigated a statewide retesting initiative and funding for childhood lead poisoning prevention. Her investigations into nepotism, federal housing fraud, and illegal narcotics distribution illustrate her dedication to exposing malpractice and advocating for community well-being.
A Chester County native and Temple University graduate, Fries returns to her roots with a passion for serving the Berks community, where many family and friends reside. "I’m excited to bring much-needed accountability to Berks County," she stated, highlighting her eagerness to engage with local issues and community members.
Since joining Spotlight PA, she has already begun making an impact, covering significant stories such as ongoing conflicts within a local school board and the financial challenges faced by Albright College. Fries is keen on expanding her reporting, emphasizing that community input is vital for her investigative endeavors.
Spotlight PA, a nonprofit initiative, highlights the importance of community support to sustain its free public service. Amanda invites local residents to share their concerns and stories, promising to diligently pursue the truth.
