Night Work Scheduled on Cameron Street and I-83 in Harrisburg Area
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced night work beginning June 8 on Cameron Street and Interstate 83 (I-83) in Dauphin County’s Harrisburg area to facilitate crucial infrastructure upgrades.
Starting Sunday, June 8, crews will undertake trench restoration for water and sewer line work on Cameron Street, specifically between Sycamore Street and Paxton Street. This work will require lane closures nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday, June 12.
Following this, beginning June 15, the project will shift to I-83, where temporary paving will occur in both directions from the South Bridge to Paxton Street. Nightly lane restrictions will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for approximately three weeks. Motorists are advised to remain alert and exercise caution while navigating through work zones.
This initiative is a part of the East Shore Section 3 of the I-83 Capital Beltway Project, which entails extensive work including widening and reconstructing segments of the I-83 roadway, building new overhead bridges at 29th and 19th Streets, creating a new Cameron Street Interchange, and removing the 13th Street interchange. Traffic disruptions are anticipated throughout the project, which is estimated to cost $154.6 million and is scheduled for completion by October 12, 2027.
The subsequent contract for East Shore Section 3 is expected to commence in 2025 and will further enhance I-83 infrastructure.
