University of Pennsylvania Women’s Rowing Team Competes at Ivy League Championship

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The 14th-ranked University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team concluded its participation in the Ivy League Championship this past weekend on the Cooper River. In a performance that coach Bill Manning described as "Jekyll and Hyde," all five of Penn’s boats advanced to the grand finals on Sunday.

The Varsity Eight maintained its pre-race seed, finishing fifth against tough competition, while the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four both fell short of expectations, securing sixth-place spots. Similarly, the Third Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four also finished in sixth, illustrating a challenging day for the team.

"We raced hard but not as well," Manning remarked. Despite the setbacks, he noted that the Varsity Eight managed to defeat Harvard, achieving its seeding. The team is currently on the NCAA Championship selection bubble, with hopes that their performances in recent weeks will lead to inclusion in the national spotlight.

Highlighting individual achievements, senior Brooke Caragher earned first-team All-Ivy honors, while her classmate Hannah Lemanowicz was recognized as a second-team All-Ivy selection after Sunday’s races.

The competition was fierce, with Yale and Princeton leading the Varsity Eights and Second Varsity Eights category, while teams like Brown and Harvard also showcased strong performances across various events.

As the team looks ahead, they remain optimistic about potential NCAA Championship opportunities. The selection announcement is scheduled for Tuesday, and fans can follow the latest updates through @PennWomensRowing on Instagram and at PennAthletics.com.
