Winn’s Homer Leads Cardinals to 3-2 Victory Over Phillies, Marking Ninth Consecutive Win

Cardinals Extend Winning Streak with 3-2 Victory Over Phillies

Philadelphia, PA – Masyn Winn’s seventh-inning home run propelled the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night, marking their ninth consecutive victory.

With the game tied at 2, Winn delivered a clutch two-out shot to left-center off Phillies pitcher Matt Strahm. This pivotal moment followed an impressive outing by Ivan Herrera, who also contributed with a home run earlier in the sixth inning, his fifth of the season. Lars Nootbaar led the Cardinals’ offense with two hits, while the team secured only five hits in total.

Cardinals’ pitcher Kyle Leahy earned the win after throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings. JoJo Romero faced a critical situation in the eighth but skillfully retired Bryson Stott, securing the inning and maintaining the lead. Closer Ryan Helsley recorded his eighth save by wrapping up the game with a clean ninth.

The game unfolded with the Cardinals taking an early lead in the fourth inning when Nolan Arenado, who reached base after a walk, executed a successful fielder’s choice to score the game’s first run. A video review overturned a prior out call, benefiting the Cardinals. The Phillies retaliated in the bottom of the fourth, with J.T. Realmuto doubling and capitalizing on an error by Arenado to score.

In addition to the notable home runs, Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies extended his on-base streak to 47 games with a leadoff single in the sixth inning.

Looking ahead, the Cardinals are set to start Sonny Gray (4-1, 3.50 ERA) against the Phillies’ Jesus Luzardo (3-0, 2.11 ERA) in Tuesday’s matchup.
