Local Handyman’s Quick Action Saves Abandoned Kitten
In a heartwarming turn of events, a routine service call for Jason Schwartz, a plumbing technician at Handyside Plumbing, HVAC & Electrical, transformed into a rescue mission on April 23 in New Cumberland, York County. While preparing for his job, Schwartz noticed a moving trash bag tossed from a passing vehicle. To his shock, he discovered a small black kitten, approximately three weeks old, trapped inside.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Schwartz swiftly took action to ensure the kitten’s safety. Once rescued, he provided her with warmth, nourishment, and care, administering near-hourly feedings with a syringe during his service calls. The kitten has since become a beloved fixture at Handyside’s office, where employees have rallied around her.
Carley Handyside, the company’s Director of Operations, commented, “At Handyside, we talk a lot about going above and beyond for our customers, but our team brings that same compassion to everything they do.” This sentiment reflects the kind-hearted approach of the Handyside team, who have all shown support for the young feline.
Olivia Thomas, the marketing administrator, has stepped up to foster the kitten, affectionately nicknamed “Bat” due to her dark coloring, though “Lucky” is also being considered as a permanent name. The Handyside team hopes to introduce the kitten to Hunter, the company’s part-time office Husky, to see if they can share the space harmoniously.
Thomas, a devoted cat-lover, is excited to welcome the little kitten into her home, alongside her own cat, Indie. "The Handyside team has been invested in this kitten," a representative stated, highlighting the kindness and camaraderie that emerged from this unexpected rescue.
