Lavelle and Carroll Selected in 2025 PLL College Draft

University of Pennsylvania Players Shine in Premier Lacrosse League Draft

PHILADELPHIA – The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) hosted its annual college draft on Tuesday, highlighting standout talents from top lacrosse programs. Among those, two University of Pennsylvania men’s lacrosse players made significant impressions. Defenseman Brendan Lavelle was selected fifth overall by the defending champions, the Utah Archers, while goaltender Emmet Carroll was taken 20th by the Maryland Whipsnakes.

This achievement marks a milestone for the Penn lacrosse program, with Lavelle and Carroll becoming the fourth and fifth players selected in the PLL since its inception in 2019. Notably, Lavelle is now the second-highest draft pick in program history, following Sam Handley’s impressive fourth overall selection in 2023.

Both players share a journey that began at Rye High School in New York, showcasing their enduring partnership on the field. This year’s draft adds to Penn’s history of multiple selections in the same year, a feat previously accomplished in 2023 (PLL), 2018 (MLL), 2015 (MLL), and 2006 (MLL).

Lavelle, who garnered first-team All-Ivy honors for the third consecutive year, emerged as a crucial defensive asset, leading the team with 12 caused turnovers and securing 36 ground balls. His performance included key plays against formidable opponents, solidifying his reputation in collegiate lacrosse.

On the other hand, Carroll, recognized as a consensus second-team All-American, exhibited remarkable skill as a goaltender. In his senior season, he recorded 160 saves and maintained a .528 save percentage, standing out with double-digit saves in 10 games. His pivotal performance against Brown in the Ivy opener highlighted his talent and potential as he contributed significantly to the team’s defensive efforts.

The selections of Lavelle and Carroll reaffirm the University of Pennsylvania’s strong presence in the lacrosse landscape as it continues to produce elite talent for professional leagues.
