May 5, 2025 – Updated 10:50 PM EDT
The WGAL News 8 Storm Team has declared an Alert Day for South-Central Pennsylvania, urging residents to prepare as strong storms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. Current forecasts indicate that isolated thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours leading to potential flash flooding, particularly in parts of Franklin, Adams, and Cumberland counties.
A severe thunderstorm watch is currently in effect for York, Adams, and Franklin counties until midnight today. Significant rainfall has already been reported, with estimates ranging from one to three inches in far western Adams County and Cumberland County. Some areas, like Fredericksburg in Lebanon County, have seen over three inches of rain over the past few days.
Storm conditions are expected to persist overnight, giving way to scattered showers on Tuesday. The early morning may bring residual showers, with temperatures expected to range from the low to mid-60s. As temperatures rise into the 70s later in the day, thunderstorms could become more frequent.
In addition to the impending storms, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Lancaster County Sunday afternoon, raising concerns about severe weather in the area.
Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor local news for updates, and take precautions to protect their property and loved ones as the weather system approaches. More rain and potential storms are forecasted throughout the week, making it crucial for the community to stay informed and prepared.
