Flood Warning Issued for Centre and Clinton Counties Amid Heavy Rainfall
On Tuesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood warning for Centre and Clinton counties, effective from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The advisory specifically mentions "minor flooding is forecast for Bald Eagle Creek near Beech Creek Station."
As water levels rise, impacts are predicted at various heights: at 10.0 feet, overgrown pastures and agricultural fields will be affected; at 11.0 feet, the cottage area of Mill Hall is threatened; and at 13.0 feet, homes in the cottage area will become isolated by flooding. Authorities urge residents to "turn around, don’t drown" when encountering flooded roads, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
The National Weather Service distinguishes between several alerts: a flash flood warning indicates imminent danger, a flood warning suggests existing flooding, a flood advisory means caution is advised, and a flood watch signals favorable conditions for flooding.
To combat flooding risks, the NWS emphasizes the importance of safety guidelines, including seeking higher ground, following evacuation orders, and avoiding basements during floods. Residents should never wade through floodwaters, as just six inches of moving water can knock someone off their feet.
During heavy rainfall, the risk of flooding increases significantly. The weather service advises motorists to maintain safe driving distances, slow down, and choose lanes carefully to avoid hydroplaning.
As severe weather looms, the public is reminded to stay informed through local alerts and heed guidance from authorities for their safety. United Robots’ Advance Local Weather Alerts service continuously compiles the latest updates from the NWS, ensuring communities remain vigilant against flooding threats.
