Severe Storms Expected in South-Central Pennsylvania
May 3, 2025 — South-Central Pennsylvania
Residents of south-central Pennsylvania are bracing for strong to severe thunderstorms this evening, with a severe thunderstorm watch issued until 10 p.m. for Adams, York, and Lancaster counties. Meteorologists are warning of potentially damaging winds, large hail, and even an isolated tornado as a cold front moves through the region.
The storms are estimated to begin impacting areas along and southeast of Interstate 81 from approximately 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is anticipated, with localized flooding possible in urban and low-drainage areas. Temperatures are expected to drop from the 80s to mid-70s as the storms roll in.
As the evening progresses, rain is likely to shift into Lancaster County, with gusty winds accompanying heavy downpours. Moderate rainfall, ranging from a quarter to three-quarters of an inch, may fall within an hour, primarily affecting central Dauphin and Lebanon counties.
Meteorologist Ryan Argenti highlighted that after midnight, showers will continue overnight and throughout the weekend, with similar conditions expected on Sunday and Monday. Highs will remain around 70 degrees, with overcast skies prevailing.
Looking ahead, weather patterns will transition from these showers into a drier stretch as we approach Mother’s Day weekend. However, residents should remain vigilant as more rain and thunderstorms are projected throughout the week, particularly from a system moving in from the Great Lakes Thursday into Friday.
Stay informed and safe during this stormy weather.
