The UPMC Health Plan’s "Run for a Reason" charity program continues its legacy, raising more than $17.8 million since 2009, with expectations of an additional $1.5 million this year alone for various charities, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Special Olympics Pennsylvania.
With extensive preparations involving over 4,000 volunteers and a focus on safety and hydration, officials ensured a smooth operation for both runners and spectators. Local crowds celebrated amid considerable excitement, with spectators cheering on participants along the course.
For those attending, road closures in downtown Pittsburgh began Friday, leading to additional traffic advisories, particularly on marathon day, with major local events adding to the bustling atmosphere.
As voices echoed through the marathon route, P3R CEO Troy Schooley emphasized the event’s celebration of community and movement, promising a thrilling experience for runners and supporters alike.
