Gov. Josh Shapiro, along with his family and celebrity chef Robert Irvine, hosted a lunch for firefighters who responded to the fire at the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg. The lunch included Creole shrimp, short ribs, Mambo chicken, glazed salmon, ratatouille, and mac n’ cheese as a thank you for saving their lives during the fire that was set by Cody A. Balmer. Balmer is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, for the arson.
During the lunch, Shapiro expressed his gratitude to the firefighters and highlighted his support for professional and volunteer firefighters in the 2025 budget proposal, requesting an additional $30 million in competitive grants for Pennsylvania’s fire companies. The Robert Irvine Foundation, which supports service members, veterans, and first responders, also played a role in the event.
This isn’t the first time Shapiro and Irvine have worked together, as Irvine previously prepared a lunch for veterans at the Governor’s Residence in 2023. Irvine, a former Food Network star, has also visited Harrisburg in the past, filming an episode of “Restaurant Impossible” at Dodge City Steakhouse in 2011.
The lunch served as a gesture of gratitude towards the firefighters who risked their lives to save the Governor’s Residence, highlighting the importance of supporting first responders in the community.
