Olivia DiPrinzio, a Penn State graduate with honors in energy engineering and Earth science and policy, has dedicated her career to sustainability and is now the associate director of the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium. The nonprofit organization focuses on connecting higher education institutions in Pennsylvania to promote sustainability through various initiatives. DiPrinzio’s work includes developing a sustainability attribute for courses at Penn State to help students easily identify and enroll in sustainability-focused classes.
Her efforts have been recognized with a 2024 John Roe Sustainability Impact Award, highlighting her role in transforming Penn State’s approach to sustainability education. DiPrinzio hopes to see sustainability courses become a graduation requirement for students. At PERC, she continues her work on a larger scale by facilitating collaborations, conferences, and projects among member institutions to promote sustainability.
PERC will host a sustainability leaders’ event in May to bring together university officials to emphasize collective action in advancing sustainability. DiPrinzio believes in connecting institutions with resources and expertise to support their sustainability efforts. Her passion for sustainability began at Penn State, where she transitioned from computer science to environmental issues, driven by the impacts of climate change.
Through her work at PERC, DiPrinzio aims to foster a culture of responsible consumption and proactive climate action across Pennsylvania’s universities. She believes in the power of collaboration to drive sustainability efforts and hopes to see more institutions embrace sustainable practices.
