Outstanding Pennsylvania 4-H Members Shine at National 4-H Shooting Sports Quiz Bowl


Pennsylvania 4-H’ers recently showcased their skills in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Quiz Bowl, with participants from around the country competing virtually. The competition focused on firearm mechanics, safety, and trivia related to disciplines like archery, rifle, pistol, and more, as well as general knowledge. A total of 35 Pennsylvania 4-H’ers took part in the event, with impressive results across different age divisions.

In the junior division, a team from Armstrong and Indiana County placed second nationally, with individual members also ranking highly. In the intermediate division, the Franklin Community Team from Fayette County took the top spot nationally, with individual participants also excelling. Senior competitors from various counties in Pennsylvania also performed well, with teams and individuals earning top rankings in both the region and the nation.

4-H shooting sports programs focus on positive youth development and teaching crucial life skills, promoting the safe and ethical use of firearms and archery equipment. Administered by Penn State Extension, 4-H is a nonformal educational youth-development program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that helps young people develop knowledge and skills to become capable, caring, and contributing citizens.
