Duda Farm Fresh Foods, based in California, has issued a voluntary recall of its celery sticks due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects over 1,587 cases of 4 count 4 in/1.6 oz bundle packs of Marketside Celery Sticks that were sold at Walmart stores in several states. The affected products have a UPC code of 6 81131 16151 0, a lot code of P047650, and a best-by date of 03/23/2025.
The contamination was discovered during a random sampling at a store in Georgia, where one of the samples tested positive for Listeria. While no illnesses have been reported thus far, consumers are urged not to consume the product and to discard it if they have it in their possession, including in their freezers.
Listeria can cause severe infections in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, nausea, and abdominal pain, with potential complications like miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
Consumers with questions or concerns regarding the recall can contact Duda Farm Fresh Foods at foodsafety@duda.com. This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety measures and the need for vigilance in monitoring potential risks to public health.
