Lawmaker Advocates for Transit Funding Amid SEPTA Budget Concerns

State Rep. Perry Warren of Newtown-Yardley expressed his support for continued state funding for public transit, specifically for SEPTA. Without restored funding, SEPTA would face significant fare increases and service reductions, impacting the West Trenton Regional Rail Line and the region. Warren emphasized the importance of public transportation in connecting communities, supporting the economy, and reducing traffic and pollution.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has passed legislation to fund SEPTA and other mass transit systems multiple times over the past year, with the House Democratic Caucus ready to provide support again. Without increased funding, SEPTA would face service cuts, fare increases, and a rail service curfew. Warren highlighted the environmental implications of reducing mass transit, as more cars on the road would lead to congestion, emissions, and lower air quality.

Warren thanked Gov. Josh Shapiro for proposing statewide transit funding and short-term solutions to keep services running. SEPTA will hold public hearings in May, with a final budget vote scheduled for June 26. Warren encouraged lawmakers, community members, and transit users to voice their support for transit funding and SEPTA to find a solution that preserves access, protects jobs, and strengthens communities. Warren represents the 31st Legislative District in Bucks County, including Lower Makefield, Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Upper Makefield, and Yardley Borough.
