Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, and his family were evacuated from their home early Sunday morning after an arson attack that caused significant damage to a section of the governor’s residence in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania State Police woke up the governor’s family around 2 a.m. after an arsonist set fire to the property. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The State Police and Pennsylvania Capitol Police evacuated the family while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire. Governor Shapiro expressed his gratitude for the first responders and law enforcement officers who acted swiftly to keep his family safe.
The State Police confirmed that the fire caused substantial damage to a portion of the residence. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no suspects have been identified at this time.
The governor’s residence is a historic Georgian-style home located on the Susquehanna River, which has been home to eight governors and their families since its completion in 1968. The property is open to the public for tours, showcasing art and artifacts on the first floor.
A recent renovation of the residence in 2022 aimed to improve accessibility for individuals with mobility issues and enhance environmental sustainability. Governor Shapiro, who took office in January 2023 after serving as the state attorney general, continues to monitor the situation as it unfolds.
As more details emerge, this remains a developing story.
