Pennsylvania man accused of threatening to kill Trump

A Pennsylvania man, Shawn Monper, has been federally charged with making threats to assault and assassinate President Donald Trump, other U.S. officials, and ICE agents. Monper, 32, was arrested in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the president was shot during a campaign rally in July. The FBI and Butler Township Police Department are credited with identifying and apprehending Monper before any harm was done. Attorney General Pamela Bondi commended their work in a statement. Monper’s threatening statements on his YouTube account led to his arrest, including references to assassinating Trump and conducting a mass shooting. He also mentioned buying guns and body armor since Trump took office and threatened to open fire on ICE agents. The FBI investigation also found that Monper obtained a firearms permit after Trump’s inauguration. Monper is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

This incident is reminiscent of the shooting that occurred during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was shot in the ear. The shooter was killed by the Secret Service. In a separate incident, a Florida man was arrested for attempting to assassinate the president in September, and another Florida man recently was arrested for making threats on social media. The Department of Justice is dedicated to prosecuting individuals who threaten the lives of U.S. officials to the fullest extent of the law.
