Governor Josh Shapiro announced $20 million in funding for 81 community revitalization projects across Pennsylvania at the 2025 National Main Street Now Conference in Philadelphia. The Main Street Matters program aims to support local economies through infrastructure improvements and small business assistance. Over 200 applications were received, requesting more than $43 million in funding. The Governor’s 2025-26 proposal includes an additional $20 million investment in the program. The initiative, administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, builds on the Keystone Communities Program and will fund repairs to sidewalks and lighting, façade improvements, affordable housing projects, and business development.
Project awards range in size and scope, with notable awards including $1 million for projects in Northampton County, Philadelphia, and Chester County. Other funded projects include streetscape improvements in Beaver County, the Coblentz Corner Project in Columbia County, and façade improvements in Mercer County. Awards were also made in Allegheny, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Somerset, and York counties.
Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger emphasized the importance of Main Streets in local communities and described the Main Street Matters program as a valuable tool for economic development. The initiative is a key component of Governor Shapiro’s 10-year economic development strategy.
