Pennsylvania Detective Aids Bullies in Finding Permanent Residences

Detective Richard Jones of the Trainer Borough Police Department in Delaware County has gained social media fame for his efforts to find forever homes for bully breed dogs at Pennsylvania SPCA shelters in the Philadelphia area. Through his initiative, “Police Helping Paws,” Jones showcases the training exercises he conducts with these dogs on Instagram and TikTok. He believes that adult pit bulls can make great family pets and even be suitable for police work.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pennsylvania SPCA shelters have been at full capacity for nearly five years, with many bully breed dogs being overlooked by potential adopters. Jones has successfully facilitated the adoption of at least three bully dogs and encourages people to visit shelters without bias, allowing the dog to choose them. He emphasized that any person is capable of training a shelter dog and that the experience can be rewarding for both the dog and the adopter.

Sara Brown from the Pennsylvania SPCA commended Jones for his efforts in raising awareness and helping these dogs find homes. With Jones’ social media influence, he hopes to continue promoting shelter adoptions and challenging misconceptions about bully breed dogs.
