Metcalf assisted with Trump’s attempt to influence Roger Stone’s sentencing | Political Maneuvers

David Metcalf, a former federal prosecutor, has been appointed as the interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by Attorney General Pam Bondi. Metcalf will replace former U.S. Attorney Jacqueline Romero, who left the role in February.

Metcalf previously served as chief of staff to U.S. Attorney Timothy Shea, and was involved in the Roger Stone sentencing matter. However, a Justice Department investigation found no evidence of political tampering in the reduction of Stone’s proposed sentence.

Metcalf served as a federal prosecutor from 2015 to 2019 in the District of Maryland, and worked as an assistant to the U.S. attorney in Pennsylvania’s Eastern District from 2020 to 2022. Since 2022, he has been working as a corporate counsel at Amazon.

U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick praised the appointment, highlighting the Trump administration’s emphasis on “law and order.” McCormick recently launched a commission to identify candidates for U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal posts in Pennsylvania.

Metcalf, a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, will serve in the role for 120 days or until a nominee is confirmed by the Senate. The deadline to apply for the U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal posts is March 28, with McCormick expressing a commitment to working with the White House to enforce the rule of law.
