The University of Pennsylvania fencing programs had a strong showing at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, with Sabrina Cho and Simon Kushkov winning their events. The Red and Blue had a total of eight Quakers place in the top ten, including Antonio Heathcock in second place in saber and Gian Dhingra in third. Leah Blum also placed fifth in saber, while Katina Proestakis Ortiz, Katherine Andres, and Vivian Lu also finished in the top ten.
The team now awaits to see who will earn bids to the 2025 NCAA Fencing Championships hosted by Penn State from March 20-22. In the men’s competitions, Kushkov took first in saber, while Heathcock and Dhingra followed closely behind. In the women’s events, Cho claimed first in foil, with Proestakis Ortiz placing sixth. Additionally, Victoria Kuznetsov finished fourth in women’s epee.
The Quakers showcased their talent and determination at the regional competition and are looking forward to seeing their continued success at the upcoming championships. With a strong group of fencers placing in the top ten in their respective events, Penn’s fencing programs are poised to make a mark on the national stage.
