The University of Pennsylvania softball team suffered two tough losses in the Purple Classic at Grand Canyon University. In their first game against the University of New Mexico, the Quakers fell 4-1 despite an early lead. Pitcher Kelly Zybura kept the Lobos at bay until the fourth inning when New Mexico hit a solo home run to tie the score. The Lobos added two more runs in the sixth inning and another in the seventh, securing the win. In their second game against Grand Canyon University, Penn started strong with a 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, Grand Canyon quickly took control, scoring multiple runs in the first and fourth innings to ultimately win 9-1. The Quakers were unable to overcome the Lopes’ lead. Penn will look to bounce back as they face off against the University of Nevada – Las Vegas and Utah State in upcoming games.
