Police from across the state gather as fallen Pennsylvania officer’s body returns for funeral

Law enforcement officers from across Pennsylvania gathered at the Living Word Community Church in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, to honor the life of West York Officer Andrew W. Duarte, who was tragically killed while responding to a hospital attack. The 30-year-old officer was shot and killed while trying to rescue medical personnel and patients during the incident.

The funeral service, which was closed to the public but livestreamed by the church, included remarks from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Hundreds of uniformed officers lined the roadway leading to the church, showing their support for their fallen colleague.

Accounts from nurses who survived the attack revealed the harrowing details of the incident, with many expressing how the events continue to haunt them. The attacker, Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, also lost his life in the incident, and multiple others were wounded.

Duarte, who had previously served with the Denver Police Department in Colorado and the Ocean City Police Department in Maryland, was described as a dedicated officer with a passion for photography, guitar, hiking, and traveling. He had earned a degree in criminal justice and police science from California University of Pennsylvania.

With his passing, Duarte leaves behind his parents and his girlfriend. The law enforcement community has come together to pay tribute to his service and sacrifice, showing their support and solidarity during this difficult time.
