Two German shepherd puppies seeking shelter from the freezing Minnesota winter were rescued from under a home’s porch in Cokato. The homeowners found the puppies huddled together trying to stay warm as temperatures dropped below zero with wind chills. The two pups, estimated to be 12-14 weeks old, were discovered on Feb. 18 and were likely seeking shelter from the elements. Ruff Start Rescue helped rescue the puppies as the homeowners reached out for assistance. The rescue team had to lure the puppies out with rotisserie chicken and they sustained frostbite on their noses and paws. The puppies, named Cleo and Delta, are now in foster care as they acclimate to human interaction and recover from their ordeal. Adoption applications will open later this week, but the puppies will be adopted separately to prevent behavioral issues associated with littermate syndrome. The rescue organization is providing care for the puppies with the goal of finding them loving forever homes. The puppies have shown signs of progress and are expected to warm up fully in a couple of weeks. Placing them in separate homes will ensure their individual development and long-term well-being.
