Rescue of cliffside at Southern California beach captivates onlookers

The Orange County Fire Authority conducted a dramatic cliffside rescue mission in Laguna Beach on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025. A man, identified as Noah Kemp, found himself stuck on a cliff in Southern California after climbing 20 feet up a hill and reaching a point where he could not move any further. Lifeguards used drones to assess the situation before determining that a helicopter airlift would be necessary for the rescue operation.

The video footage shared by the Orange County Fire Authority shows a rescuer safely hoisting Kemp away from the cliff at Crescent Bay Beach, with no injuries reported during the rescue. Laguna Beach Fire Department Administrative Captain Chip Gilmore explained that Kemp was about two-thirds of the way up the cliff when he got stuck, making it difficult for him to go any further.

The use of drones provided a bird’s-eye view of the scene, allowing officials to make informed decisions on the rescue operation. The successful rescue operation highlights the importance of quick thinking and collaboration in emergency situations. Kemp has not yet provided any comment on the incident.
