Three Pennsylvania men have been convicted for their roles in stealing and destroying millions of dollars worth of sports memorabilia. The men were part of a group that targeted storage units belonging to professional athletes, coaches, and sports broadcasters.
Kevin Walls, 44, of Harrisburg, and Terrance Burch, 38, of Camp Hill, were sentenced to 170 years in prison for their involvement in the scheme. Another man, Jason Dixon, 44, of Susquehanna Township, was also found guilty and was sentenced to 110 years.
The group targeted storage units belonging to well-known figures in the sports world, including former Philadelphia Eagles players, coaches, and broadcasters. They used stolen identification cards to gain access to the units and then sold the stolen items at pawn shops or online.
The stolen memorabilia included autographed jerseys, helmets, photos, and other valuable items. The group also destroyed some of the items they couldn’t sell, causing millions of dollars in damages.
The men were convicted on charges of conspiracy, burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. The investigation into their activities involved multiple law enforcement agencies and took several years to complete.
Prosecutors praised the work of law enforcement in bringing the men to justice and expressed hope that the convictions would send a message to others considering similar crimes.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of securing valuable items in storage units and taking steps to prevent theft. Sports memorabilia collectors are encouraged to keep detailed records of their items and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
