Brian Ellis, a victim of the DC plane crash, was an enduring friend

Brian Ellis, a former high school football champion from Georgia, won the state championship in 1987 and became the starting quarterback the following year. He continued to demonstrate leadership and commitment to team values throughout his life. After attending the U.S. Naval Academy and serving as a Marine Corps officer for almost 22 years, Ellis tragically passed away in a mid-air collision in Washington, D.C. at the age of 53.

Ellis was known for his strong friendships, particularly with three classmates he met at the Naval Academy who became lifelong friends. They played football together, went through flight school, and remained close even as their lives diverged. Ellis was remembered as a great friend who would do anything for those he cared about. He also had a successful career in the Marine Corps, managing public remarks and leading teams focused on problem-solving and risk identification.

After retiring from the Marine Corps as a Lt. Colonel in 2015, Ellis joined Deloitte and was traveling on business at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and his parents and siblings. Ellis leaves behind a legacy of leadership, dedication, and friendship that has been fondly remembered by his classmates, teammates, fellow Marines, and colleagues.
