A tragic incident occurred on Friday, January 31, when a medical jet carrying a female pediatric patient crashed in a Philadelphia residential neighborhood. The young girl had been flown from Mexico to receive life-saving treatment in the U.S. and was on her way home with her mother when the crash happened.
The jet was carrying the patient, her mother, a doctor, a paramedic, a pilot, and a co-pilot. It was en route to Tijuana with a planned stop at Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri. All onboard the plane were Mexican nationals.
The crash occurred just 30 seconds after the plane took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The impact caused a fire that spread to nearby houses and vehicles, resulting in six people on the ground getting injured.
The female pediatric patient had been receiving care at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia hospital. The hospital confirmed that she was being transported back to Mexico when the crash occurred. Due to privacy reasons, the identities of the girl and her mother have not been revealed, and Jet Rescue Air Ambulance has stated that they cannot confirm any survivors until proper notifications have been made.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of life amid a mission meant to save lives. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
