Pennsylvania Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro strongly condemned the suspect accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, calling him a coward and denouncing any support for the slaying in “dark corners” of the internet. The suspect, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, was apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a six-day manhunt. Shapiro emphasized that violence is not the way to resolve policy differences or express an opinion in America. Mangione, a software developer, was recognized by employees and customers at the restaurant and taken into custody by rookie police officer Tyler Frye. He allegedly handed over a fake ID, gave a false name, and had writings criticizing the healthcare industry and a ghost gun similar to the one used in Thompson’s murder. Mangione was initially held on unrelated charges but has since been charged with murder in New York. The arrest followed a nationwide search for the suspect, who allegedly killed Thompson in an ambush in New York City. Shapiro’s remarks at a press conference highlighted the severity of the crime and the importance of upholding the rule of law. Fox News Digital’s Elizabeth Pritchett contributed to the report, and journalist Chris Pandolfo covered the breaking news.
