A recent campaign finance report reveals that the Democratic presidential nominee’s campaign paid Oprah Winfrey’s production company, Harpo Productions, $1 million for its work on a livestream rally in September. Rumors had circulated that Winfrey was paid for endorsing the nominee, but she denied receiving any money personally. The event, called “Unite for America,” aimed to register voters in swing states but ultimately did not help secure these states for the nominee. The campaign also spent $575,000 on an ad in Las Vegas and millions on other advertisements. Harpo Productions received two $500,000 payments from the Harris campaign for their work on the event. Aides from the campaign defended the payments, stating that they never paid artists or performers directly and only covered ancillary costs such as travel. Overall, the campaign spent over $1 billion and ultimately lost the election. Democrats are now scrutinizing the campaign’s spending to understand where it went wrong in the 2024 election.
