Fatal Shooting in Monroe County

Press Article: Homicide Suspect Matthew Morales Returns to Pennsylvania for Trial

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Matthew Morales, 31, is back in Pennsylvania and awaiting trial for the alleged homicide of Henry Koroma, who was fatally shot at My Place Bar & Grill in Middle Smithfield Township last May. District Attorney Mike Mancuso announced that a judge has found sufficient evidence to hold Morales for trial, with an arraignment scheduled for next month in the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas.

According to state police, the incident occurred on May 24, when Morales and Koroma engaged in a physical altercation that escalated dramatically. Witnesses and surveillance footage indicate that Morales drew a firearm and fired a single shot, striking Koroma in the chest. Following the shooting, Koroma managed to escape the bar but collapsed in the parking lot and died approximately one hour later in a local hospital emergency room.

After the incident, Morales fled to Salt Lake City, Utah, becoming a fugitive until August. His evasion came to an end when he was injured in another shooting at a bar, where reports indicate he discharged his firearm into the air and was subsequently shot eight times. After recovering sufficiently for travel, Morales was extradited back to Pennsylvania.

Morales currently faces serious charges, including criminal homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. While he remains in custody in Monroe County, no trial date has been established yet. The case continues to draw attention as the community seeks justice for the alleged crime.*
