Woman sentenced to 25 years in prison for DUI collision

A South Carolina woman, Jamie Lee Komoroski, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting to driving drunk and causing a fatal accident that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Samantha Miller, who had just been married. Komoroski pleaded guilty to charges of reckless homicide and felony DUI, among others, in the Charleston County courtroom. She apologized in court for her actions and admitted to struggling with alcohol addiction at the time of the incident. Miller’s husband, Aric Hutchinson, who was also seriously injured in the crash, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski and local businesses that served her alcohol that day. The lawsuit alleged that Komoroski had been visibly intoxicated but was allowed to continue drinking. Hutchinson was eventually awarded over $863,000 in settlements from the bars, Komoroski’s insurance, and the car rental company. In court, Hutchinson tearfully described his injuries and shared the last moments he had with his wife before the accident. He expressed deep regret and wished that he had died instead of Miller. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of drunk driving and the importance of accountability for those responsible.
