His wife, Lynn, confirmed the news, stating that he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s six years ago, and "took his last breath in the arms of his family."
Best remembered for his role as Detective Roman Brady on the long-running soap opera "Days of Our Lives," Northrop appeared in over 1,000 episodes from 1981 to 1984 and made a return from 1991 to 1994, with another stint as Dr. Alex North from 2005 to 2006. His portrayal of Brady left a significant mark on the series, earning him a dedicated fanbase.
Beyond "Days of Our Lives," Northrop had a notable presence in the television landscape, playing Michael Culhane in the iconic drama "Dynasty" during its initial and final seasons. He also featured as Rex Stanton on "Port Charles," further showcasing his versatility as an actor.
Born in Sumner, Washington, on April 12, 1947, Northrop was a graduate of the University of Washington and further honed his acting skills at Seattle Community College. His expansive career included guest roles in other esteemed series such as "The Waltons," "L.A. Law," and "Cold Case."
