A 12-year-old boy stole his grandfather’s vehicle and drove approximately 160 miles over a mountain freeway in Washington before being caught by deputies the day before Thanksgiving. The police were alerted by authorities in Issaquah, near Seattle, and the boy was suspected to be headed to Moses Lake in Grant County. The journey would have taken around two and a half hours on Interstate 90, crossing Snoqualmie Pass at an elevation of 3,000 feet and enduring near-freezing temperatures and snow accumulation. Deputies found the stolen vehicle parked in a residential area near the Grant County airport, where a short pursuit ensued. The boy was eventually apprehended after deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. He was booked at the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony eluding. Authorities were relieved that the boy did not harm himself or others during the reckless drive. This incident highlights the dangers of underage individuals operating vehicles without supervision and the importance of taking appropriate measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
