The University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team secured a 64-51 victory over Cal Baptist on Saturday to complete a successful weekend at FGCU’s Homewood Suites Classic. Stina Almqvist led the Quakers with a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double, helping Penn improve to 6-3 while Cal Baptist remains winless at 0-8. This win marks the second three-game win streak of the season for the Quakers.
Almqvist was instrumental in the victory, scoring 10 of her 20 points in the second half and making three three-pointers. Mataya Gayle also contributed with 14 points and three assists, while Saniah Caldwell had six points, six boards, and three assists.
Penn started strong with a 13-0 run in the first quarter, but Cal Baptist fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Quakers 17-7. However, Penn regained control in the fourth quarter, going on a 13-0 run to secure the win.
The Quakers shot 34.9 percent from the field overall but improved to 57.1 percent in the fourth quarter. Penn will next face Delaware State on December 20 before preparing for the Women’s Big 5 Classic at Villanova’s Finneran Pavilion.
