Israel claims to have eliminated suspect responsible for Oct. 7 attack linked to US-based charity

The Israeli military announced that they had killed a militant who participated in the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel. The militant was said to be an employee of the U.S.-based charity, World Central Kitchen, in Gaza. However, there was no evidence provided, and the identity of the man and his involvement in the attack could not be independently verified. World Central Kitchen confirmed the airstrike on its employees and stated that they had no prior knowledge of any ties to the attack.

Following the attack, the charity group announced it would pause operations in Gaza as they work to gather more information. In a separate incident, multiple Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The Israeli military maintains that they do not target civilians and accuses Hamas of using civilian facilities as shields.

Leaders of Hamas were expected to arrive in Cairo for cease-fire talks with Egyptian officials, following similar agreements between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The United States recently announced efforts, in collaboration with Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, to negotiate a cease-fire in Gaza. Hamas is seeking a deal to end the conflict and secure the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed that the war will only end when Hamas is eradicated. The conflict in Gaza has resulted in significant casualties and displacement of the population, with vast areas lying in ruins.
