The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team suffered a setback in the ITA Sectional today as Esha Velaga and Lara Stojanovski were defeated by Duke’s Elizabeth Coleman and Irina Balus. The Penn duo lost in a hard-fought match with a final score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-2. Despite this loss, Velaga and Stojanovski still have a chance to qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship with a win in their upcoming match against Virginia’s Annabelle Xu and Martina Genis Salas.
The Quakers had been on a hot streak leading up to this loss, making it to the semifinal round of the tournament. Velaga and Stojanovski had been performing well, but ultimately fell short against a tough opponent in Duke.
