Hamas releases footage of American-Israeli captive in Gaza

Hamas released a video of Israeli-American hostage soldier Edan Alexander, who was abducted during an attack in Gaza on October 7, 2023. In the video, Alexander pleads for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to secure his release. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the video as cruel psychological warfare and reassured Alexander’s family that Israel is working to bring the hostages home. There are still 101 hostages held in Gaza, with around half believed to still be alive. Hamas leaders were expected in Cairo for ceasefire talks with Egyptian officials to discuss a potential deal for the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The Hostages Families Forum has urged both the outgoing Biden administration and incoming Trump administration to increase efforts to secure the hostages’ release, emphasizing the urgent need for action as the hostages’ lives are at risk. Washington has indicated a renewed focus on efforts to secure the release of hostages. The situation remains tense as negotiations continue.
