Pennsylvanians eagerly anticipate the start of statewide deer hunting season with any hunting firearm, which begins on Saturday, November 30. The Pennsylvania Game Commission expects over half a million hunters to take part in the opening day. The season runs until December 14, with the only exception being Sunday, December 8.
Hunters are permitted to take one antlered deer per year, along with additional antlerless deer based on Wildlife Management Unit-specific antlerless licenses or permits from the Deer Management Assistance Program. Game Commission Executive Director Steve Smith expressed his excitement about the start of the season, emphasizing the importance of hunting in the state’s culture and commitment to wildlife conservation.
Last year, hunters in Pennsylvania harvested a total of 430,010 white-tailed deer, with the buck harvest estimated at 171,600 and the antlerless harvest at 258,410. The Game Commission provides detailed information on antler restrictions, WMU boundaries, Chronic Wasting Disease, and other hunting regulations in the 2024-25 Pennsylvania Hunting & Trapping Digest, available to hunters online and in print.
For more information on the upcoming hunting season and regulations, hunters are encouraged to consult the Game Commission’s website. As the season kicks off, hunters are urged to prioritize safety and responsible hunting practices to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience.
